Constitution Bee I – Five Clauses Everyone Should Know
We completed our first successful national, online Constitution Bee in late April 2016, giving away 15 cash prizes worth over $10,000! Adult Constitution Bee
We had such good feedback from the parents of the youth in Constitution Bee I that we’ve decided to open up an Adult Constitution Bee! 1st place: $1000
2nd place: $500
3rd place: $250
The Adult Constitution Bee is open from Constitution Day (Sept 17th) through October 14th. All one has to do is view the videos in the left hand column of this page under “Constitution Bee I” to prepare for taking the Bee during that time (to learn more and to register, click HERE).

Why a Constitution Bee?
Because America needs strong youth, parents and families who believe in and understand freedom! Because America needs a positive, non-politicized message of goodness we can be proud to stand for instead of a negative, partisan battle we feel frustrated fighting against! Because Americans need something they can do that will help save the country and the freedoms they love!
The freedom formula our founding fathers gave us in the Constitution has produced the most free and prosperous nation of individuals in the history of the world. But, today, our freedom and prosperity is being threatened and diminished. Why is that so?
Well, in part, it’s because we’ve looked to everywhere but to the supreme law of our land for answers to our problems. But that’s mostly because what is in the Constitution has been taught as dry, irrelevant and boring. We have yet to learn the powerful truths embodied in that great document in ways that make it exciting, applicable and absolutely critical to our happiness and well-being.
But the Constitution Bee is on a mission to change that!
Through our Bee, no longer will the Constitution be viewed as a document that is set aside for lawyers and academics to debate. Nor will it be held as a relic of history with very little relevance to today’s world. Rather, the principles of freedom in our Constitution will be taught in such a way that they will become personal, they will become powerful and they will become life-changing! And, they won’t be wrapped in Red (Republican) or Blue (Democrat) packages. Rather, they will be packaged in Red, White and Blue – because these are American principles, not partisan principles!
Best of all, the Bee will reach the target audience who will have the greatest bearing on shaping America’s future – our YOUTH!
Parents and Grandparents. We need your help to make this happen! The Constitution Bee is funded ENTIRELY BY DONATIONS! If you are interested in supporting this cause, please click HERE.
What Is It?
A Constitution Bee is a constitutional study course – complete with videos, review lessons, quizzes and a final, online exam where participants compete with their peers to earn cash prizes. A Bee is not a single event nor is it a single Bee. There will be an entire series of Bees when all is said and done. We are hoping to have Constitution Bee I all the way through Constitution Bee XII rolled out over a 6 year period. Each Bee is designed as an online test taken at home on your computer. Each will be based on a video series and a particular topic (Constitution Bee I was based on a video series entitled, “Five Clauses Everyone Should Know”). The videos are designed to get children and their parents talking about the principles of freedom. Parents will quiz youth and youth will quiz parents and together they’ll reignite the flame of freedom. Each Constitution Bee offers youth in 5 different age groups the opportunity to compete for 15 cash prizes worth a total of over $6,000! Not everyone will win the money, but everyone who learns and understands the principles of freedom in the Constitution will gain something much more valuable than money. They will gain knowledge!
Each Bee will emphasize how the Constitution applies to our everyday lives and will utilize word plays, analogies, activities and interactive games to instill in youth the simple, yet powerful foundational principles of freedom that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
How Does It Work?
There will be only one Bee that is featured at any given point in time. Being “featured” means the Bee is the newest Bee that is either in production or that has been rolled out. Registered participants study the videos and take the quizzes in order to prepare for the final, online Bee where they login once during a specified week and take the exam. (For example, Constitution Bee I was the featured bee in late 2015 and early 2016. Participants registered any time during the six months and downloaded or viewed the videos and took the accompanying quizzes for each segment. Then, they logged in once during the week of April 18-23, 2016 and took the final, online Bee (test) and were awarded cash prizes according to how well they scored in their respective age groups.) The current featured Bee is Constitution Bee II. Its videos and quizzes are currently in production and will hopefully roll out in late fall/winter.
Archived Bees are those that have already been featured as the nationwide, online Bee for their specific time period. (So far, only Constitution Bee I is an archived Bee which served as the featured Bee from late 2015 to early 2016). Youth who didn’t participate in the final, online Bee while it was featured can still watch the videos and take the quizzes at their own pace in order to login and take the final, online Bee (exam) once when they feel prepared and win up to $500 if they score 90% or higher. To register for Constitution Bee I, please click HERE.
Questions on the Constitution Bee will be drawn directly from the content of the corresponding video series and its accompanying quizzes, bonus questions and practice Bee. (For instance, Constitution Bee I’s quizzes, bonus questions and and practice Constitution Bee are available at these links.) The focus of the questions will be on the principles, not the trivia, of the Constitution. Too often Constitutional information is taught and tested based on facts, such as, “How many years does a Senator serve?” Answer: “6” But, although this is the correct answer and it serves as a good starting place, such information doesn’t instill in Americans an understanding of and a deep respect for freedom. It is safer to focus on facts because they aren’t controversial. But what our country needs is courageous and bold teaching of the principles of freedom that made and continue to make this country great! That’s what the Constitution Bee is all about!
For example, a sample question from Constitution Bee I states, “From the Supremacy Clause, Article VI, Clause 2, comes the phrase. ‘…the laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof … shall be the supreme law of the land.’ What does the term ‘pursuance’ mean and why does it matter in terms of a federal law becoming the supreme law of the land?”
Answer: “To pursue means to follow. A federal law must follow the Constitution. If a federal law violates or ignores the Constitution rather than follows it, then it should not be the supreme law of the land.”
Granted, this is high-level questioning that requires high-level thought, but hundreds of youth of varying ages have not only answered this question but have internalized the principles associated with the answer to prove that if taught correctly, the principles of freedom (in this case the principle of a Republican form of government where the law – the Constitution – is supreme, not the lawmakers) can be clearly understood and applied in a way that instills in each heart a deep love, respect and appreciation for our Constitution. And, if youth are taught to focus on the beauty of the Constitution rather than on the ugliness of our current political situation they will see that the battle is a battle for good, not a battle against bad. They will catch the vision of providing a real solution based on promoting principles rather than on spreading negativity and criticism.
Of course, such questions and answers are not best answered on a bubble sheet – and correcting them will take a lot of time and effort – but life doesn’t happen on a bubble sheet, so the extra effort will be worth it.
Who Can Participate?
Any U.S. citizen across the country, age 9-18, who wants to have a great time learning the Constitution.
Tell Me More About the Video Series,“Five Clauses Everyone Should Know”Back to top
“Five Clauses Everyone Should Know” is the 7-part video series that serves as the study guide for Constitution Bee I. A digital download of the series comes free with registration for the Bee. All questions for the Bee will come directly from the information presented in this series. The first segment covers the introduction and the basics of the Constitution. The next 5 segments cover, in-depth, the five clauses everyone should know – the Supremacy, Treaty Law, Necessary and Proper, Interstate Commerce and General Welfare clauses. The last segment is a summary of the first 6 segments. The goal of each segment is to reach students in the way that they learn best – whether it be auditory, visual or kinesthetic. For this reason every segment consists of a 20-minute video presentation (mostly full of analogies and word plays), 2 group games* or activities that support the principles being taught, a short quiz to be taken immediately following the video (to provide emphasis and focus on the most important principles) and a 3-minute cumulative review tacked on to the beginning of the next video in the series in order to get the principles into long-term memory).

What Will I Learn?
All kinds of great things! And, you’ll have a blast doing it! The Constitution will come alive with examples and analogies you can relate to and easily understand. No longer will you feel that what is in the Constitution is a mystery. Instead, you will feel empowered because you will know what it means and why it matters and your new found knowledge will literally change the way you view the world around you.
What Do I Need To Do?
If you haven’t already taken Constitution Bee I Register for it, watch the videos, take the quizzes and, when you’re ready, login and take the online Bee and earn up to $500 (to learn more, click HERE
Why Are You Doing this as an Online Event Instead of Face-to-Face?
There is no question that nothing can replace the power of personal interaction and of face-to-face teaching and learning. For this reason we will be rolling out some incentives and programs to encourage families and friends to host practice Constitution Bees in their homes. If you’re interested in hosting a live Constitution Bee event in your community, or with friends and family contact us to discuss details about how we can help you fund it, host it and make it successful!
But, that being said, there’s also no question that the most powerful tool to reach a wide number of youth is the Internet. And, getting these principles into the hearts and minds of as many people as possible is at the core of our mission. So, the natural choice is to go online where our time, resources, and efforts can be concentrated on the content of the Bee rather than on the logistics of it.
What About the Possibility of Cheating?
We sure hope that wouldn’t happen but just to be sure we take the following precautions:
1. Before participating in the Bee, each participant must sign a statement of honesty declaring that they are the one taking the Bee and that they aren’t using notes or answer keys.
2. The Bee will be timed so that only those who have studied and understand and can apply the principles will be able to do well on the Bee
3. Depending on the age group, there will be a single or multiple essay questions (worth a very significant amount of points) that will sift out potential cheaters.
4. Questions will be randomized
5. Only one question at a time will be viewable and will not be able to be revisited to further reduce the possibility of an unprepared student working the system
